NEW GLOBAL ADDICTION RECOVERY AND OVERDOSE PREVENTION APP
Download BETTER App today
Canadian Charity takes the initiative to connect people seeking recovery from addiction and to help those who use drugs to not die from overdoses.
BETTER App, free on the IOS and Android stores, wants individuals who are using drugs alone and those who are in recovery to have a platform that works together on improving their connection to their community.
Overdose Prevention – While communities create their own localized ways to combat overdoses, BETTER is virtually anywhere in the world using smartphone technology. Tapping on the Safety Net tab – Volunteer Peer Monitors are on standby, and when they suspect an overdose, monitors can contact local first responders. Friends, family, and allies can volunteer as monitors in the app, or users’ personal contacts can be made available as Safety Net monitors.
Creating Recovery-Oriented Harm Reduction – Collectively, the use of alcohol, licit and illicit drugs kill millions of people annually. Close to 1 million people have died from overdoses along in North America since 2017. R.O.H.R. is essential in person-centred networks. For decades there has been a divide between harm reduction approaches and recovery approaches, it’s either one or the other. BETTER puts everyone in one safe space.
Why? At BETTER we know there are many pathways to and of recovery. Substance use and addiction are intertwined but not synonymous. Safer ways to remain connected to a recovery community is crucial in the fight to save lives.
“For years harm reduction services and recovery services have been separating and operating in silos, it is time to change that, BETTER wants to bring all pathways of recovery and harm reduction together while building Recovery Capital” Giuseppe Ganci BETTER Project Manager
Recovery Capital – BETTER App connects the recovery community with social media features that help build Recovery Capital. Recovery Capital is an evidence-based approach to help people have better health outcomes. Better assess Recovery capital every 10 days. From the White House, The Biden-Harris Administration’s Statement of Drug Policy Priorities for Year One mentions the term Recovery Capital on Page 8.
“𝑨𝒔 𝒘𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒖𝒎 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒄 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒖𝒃𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒑 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅 𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈-𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚.”
The concept of Recovery Capital has finally made it into high-level policy for the first time in North American history
Who is behind this? – BETTER is a social enterprise of Last Door Recovery Society a nonprofit Canadian charity that provides addiction treatment for youth, adults, and families.
“Last Door supported the creation of BETTER as a service to our alumni to connect with each other, and to those who use drugs before or after treatment. Keeping everyone connected and safer is imperative for our communities. The fact that this is now available around the world makes us proud.” Jared Nilsson, Executive Director Last Door Recovery Society
