Addiction Interventions Linda Lane last DoorLinda is also a Board Registered Interventionist who has conducted many successful Interventions. She is a long-standing member of the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation, an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counsellor through ICRC and Certified Intervention Profession CIP through the Pennsylvania Certification Board.

Linda got her start working in the social services industry for over two decades and continued onto being one of the top Executive Management Leaders in the Addictions Health Care Industry in Canada also involved in many Provincial and National Strategies in Health Initiatives including the Council on Workplace Health and Wellness in which the building a Psychological Safe Workplace “practical approaches to Success” were implemented and the creation of the New National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the workplace.

In her own words: Addiction is a multi faceted illness – including physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual aspects, and that these must be addressed. Linda’s passion and drive are to help individuals and families heal from addiction. she approaches every client with the understanding that each person differs from the others.  People’s behaviours are shaped by their experiences, and each person is unique in this regard. Treatment is always individualized, as there is no such thing as one size fits all. Addicts and families are people in pain, and are doing whatever they can to make the hurt go away. In my interventions, I focus on connecting with their pain so that they can feel “heard” and understood. Only once that happens can the intervention be effective.

Linda’s a Motivational Interviewing Instructor and her belief that change is possible is an important factor to succeeding in helping people consider the change argument. In conducting interventions; she focus’s her efforts on helping the clients stay motivated, and supporting clients’ sense of self-efficacy. Linda’s commitment to excellence in Intervention best practice guides the service provision.

WHAT IS AN INTERVENTION?

An intervention is a professionally directed, education process resulting in a face-to-face meeting of family members, friends and/or employer with the person in trouble with alcohol or drugs. People who struggle with addiction are often in denial about their situation and unwilling to seek treatment.s

They may not recognize the negative effects their behaviour has on themselves and others. An intervention helps the person make the connection between their use of alcohol and drugs and the problems in their life. The goal of an intervention is to present the alcohol or drug user with a structured opportunity to accept help and to make changes before things get even worse.s

During the intervention, the friends, family, and other loved ones gather together to confront the person about the consequences of addiction and ask him or her to accept treatment.s

THE INTERVENTION:

• Provides specific examples of destructive behaviours and their impact on the addicted person and loved ones
• Offers a prearranged treatment plan with clear steps, goals and guidelines
• Spells out what each person will do if a loved one refuses to accept treatments
