Canada’s largest and most vibrant addiction recovery community

New Westminster is home to Canada’s largest recovery community, and Last Door is proud to be an integral part of that community.

When you come to treatment in New Westminster, BC you learn how to live in recovery in a real life setting that prepares you for when you return back home.

Last Door offers Social Model Programming as a strategy for recovery from addiction, we encourage clients to build Recovery Capital while in treatment. Social Model Programming is an evidencebased approach to treating addiction that focuses on the social environment of an individual. This approach emphasizes the importance of developing positive relationships with peers and family members in order to foster a sense of community and connection. Social Model Programming also encourages clients to engage in meaningful activities, such as volunteering or recreational activities, in order to build Recovery Capital. Recovery Capital is a concept that refers to the resources available to an individual to support their recovery journey, including personal skills, relationships, and connections. At Last Door, we offer Social Model Programming to our clients in an effort to empower them to build their recovery capital and to find meaningful ways to engage in their recovery.

Community engaged addiction treatment

Communities that work together are healthy communities. When considering recovery from substance use disorder, it is important to make connections, not just with your physician or counsellor, but with the community at large, most find solutions in our dynamic 12 Step community, others in SMART recovery or CBT therapy.  There are many pathways to recovery, the most important pathway is to try all of them, and continue trying, you are worth it.

When working together within a community for recovery, it is important to remember that everyone is on their own individual journey. Each person has their own unique story to tell, and it is important to be respectful and supportive of these stories, as well as of the individual as a whole. It is also important to remember that recovery is an ongoing process, and that there may be moments of relapse or struggle. It is important to remain supportive and provide a safe space for those in recovery to learn and grow.

In addition to providing support, communities can help to create a safe and nurturing environment for recovery. This includes providing resources such as housing, employment, and treatment options, as well as offering outlets for activities and recreation. Communities can also help to spread awareness about the dangers of substance use disorder, as well as provide education on the various pathways to recovery.

Finally, it is important to remember that recovery is not a onesizefitsall process. Different people will have different needs and goals, and it is important to remain open and supportive of different pathways and processes. By working together, communities can create a safe and nurturing environment for those in recovery and provide the necessary resources for a successful journey towards sobriety.
