Red Deer Recovery Community – Overview

Red Deer Recovery Community is a fully funded, licensed, bed-based addiction treatment program operated by Last Door Recovery Society. The program supports individuals experiencing substance use challenges through structure, community, peer connection, clinical support, and long-term recovery planning.

The Red Deer Recovery Community provides treatment beds for both men and women in a supportive, recovery-focused environment.

Our Approach

Recovery Community Model

Recovery is more than stopping substance use. It is about rebuilding health, relationships, purpose, and connection.

Residents are supported through:

  • Peer connection and shared lived experience
  • Structured daily routines
  • Mutual support and accountability
  • Community involvement
  • Long-term recovery planning

Whole-Person Support

Last Door uses a biopsychosocial approach that supports the full person, including physical health, emotional wellness, relationships, family connection, education, employment, housing, and community belonging.

Treatment and Support Services

Each resident receives an individualized recovery plan designed around their needs, goals, strengths, and recovery capital.

Programming may include:

  • Individual counselling
  • Group counselling
  • Recovery education
  • Mutual aid support groups
  • Life skills development
  • Relapse prevention planning
  • Family and relationship support
  • Recreation and wellness activities
  • Support with employment, education, and community reintegration

Residents are encouraged to build the tools, relationships, and confidence needed for long-term recovery.

Program Structure

Treatment is delivered through structured phases that help residents move from stabilization into personal growth, community living, and continuing care.

Phases may include:

  1. Orientation and stabilization
  2. Primary treatment
  3. Community living and skill building
  4. Transition planning and continuing care

Residents progress at their own pace based on participation, goals, readiness, and recovery planning.

Program Length

Length of stay is based on individual need and progress. Some residents may require a shorter stay, while others benefit from longer-term treatment and continued support.

The goal is to help each person leave treatment with stronger recovery capital, safer supports, and a clear plan for life after treatment.

Building Recovery Capital

Red Deer Recovery Community focuses on helping residents build recovery capital — the internal and external resources that support long-term recovery.

This includes:

  • Social Capital: healthy relationships, peer support, family connection, mentors
  • Physical Capital: health, housing, transportation, financial stability
  • Human Capital: coping skills, education, employment readiness, confidence
  • Cultural Capital: values, identity, spirituality, traditions, and community belonging

Recovery capital helps people move beyond treatment and into meaningful, connected lives.

Continuing Care and Community Connection

Recovery does not end when treatment is complete. Last Door supports residents with planning for life after treatment, including ongoing connection to community, alumni supports, employment, education, housing, and recovery networks.

Continuing care may include:

  • Alumni and peer support opportunities
  • Recovery check-ins
  • Support returning to work or school
  • Housing and community transition planning
  • Family and community reconnection
  • Participation in recovery events and community activities
