Author of The Marriage and Relationship Junkie: Kicking Your Obsession
Sherry Gaba is the author of her new book, The Marriage and Relationship Junkie: Kicking your Obsession. It is a book about Love Addiction and Love Addiction is the chemical reaction that occurs when you put down the drugs and alcohol and get addicted to love. When addicts or alcoholics stop using drugs and alcohol they tend to replace it with things outside of themselves and relationships are something that can fill the void that is left when people get clean. The relationship tends to be the persons only identity. Once there is a break up there is a similar withdrawal process just like when a drug user puts down the drugs and starts craving them.
Love in an love addicted relationship is not real love, it is called obsessive love, it is not healthy love, or nurturing love or conscious love. There is a big difference between what is healthy and not healthy love, the best way to have a healthy relationship if you are in a love addiction relationship would be to go to meetings, work on yourself and go to therapy and maybe you can find true love. Love addiction is the need for connection. If that is taking up a hobby, having good relationship with your friends because friends are there forever and relationships come and go.
To make a complete relationship you can not just have 2 halves of people, you need 2 wholes of people who love each other to make a whole relationship. Social media today is a place where lots of relationships can be made but it can also be really damaging if you are not in a good place in your life. This day and age it is easier to contact people like your ex boyfriend or ex girlfriend on Facebook or other social media sites and some people say that is why the divorice rate is higher because it is easier to met people online or reconnect with old relationships.
