Alumni of the Month Jordan B

Hi my name is Jordan, I am 19 years old and a proud alumni of the Last Door Youth Program. My clean date is January 11th 2016 and I hold that date very close to me.

Before I checked into treatment my life fell into pieces. Drugs took control of my life and it made me do things that I told myself I would never do. I hurt the people closest to me such as my family and close friends. I stole, lied and manipulated people into getting me what I wanted. Growing up in a middle-class family from Richmond I didn’t think that I would end up going to treatment for a drug addiction. I remember the first feeling of being physically dependent to opioid’s and it made me scared and not knowing what to do with my life. I was a high school kid who wouldn’t sit through class without using or would skip school because I was physically and spiritually sick. After making a series of really bad decisions my family found out about the existent of my addiction and I was told that I was going to detox where I didn’t even stay clean there after multiple attempts.

I finally detoxed and I did an intake at the Youth Door where I was told to invest my time, make friends and be a productive member of society. It took me time to learn how to treat my family with respect, to pay for coffee when we would go out and to generally care about my family’s well being. I got a sponsor, wrote the steps and read the Narcotics Anonymous literature and applied all the stuff I learned to my life and started to find freedom from my addiction. I got 30, 60, and 90 days clean and after I took my 90 day fob the obsession to use was lifted and I realized by 4 months clean that being clean might be a good idea.

I enjoyed trips up to keystone with my friends in treatment, going to Playland and Cultus Lake Waterpark. Coming into treatment I didn’t know that I was going to be able to have fun without drugs. Probably the most freeing part of treatment was writing my step 9 letters and being able to take responsibility for my actions in my addictions and own my wrongs to my loved ones and commit to stay clean and be present in my family’s life.

Today I am over 16 months clean and my life is really good. I don’t feel the need to use drugs and I am able to show up for work everyday. I go by the youth door and am a role model to current clients there. I am so grateful for the life that the door has given me and for the opportunity at life I have. Today I have the closest friends than I have ever had and I have the best relationship with my family that I have ever had. The door taught me that meetings are very important so I attend about 4 meetings a week and I sponsor people in the program. Taking my one year cake was such an amazing feeling when my brother said “I have my brother back but more importantly I have my best friend back” was one of the most special things I’ve ever herd. But something that has grown to be more important is my friends clean time because without them I can’t stay clean and seeing their families get their kids back warms my heart.
