This week we will be interviewing Joe C from Rebellion Dogs Publishing to discuss his new book.
Finally, a daily reflection book for nonbelievers, freethinkers and everyone: Beyond Belief: Agnostic Musings for 12 Step Life (2013) is the first secular daily addiction/recovery reader available for addicts/codependents in the rooms.
The recovery community embraces daily devotionals to the tune of 750,000 book sales each year. There are specialty books for codependents, men, women, young people and substance/behavioural specific books. This is the first that includes humanists, freethinkers, skeptics and atheists to the discussion.
Erine Kurtz, PhD, author of Not God: A History of Alcoholics Anonymous and The Spirituality of Imperfection said in the Foreword to Beyond Belief:
The book is aimed at a general 12-Step readership, but it is mindful that there heretofore exist no such aids for unbelievers, freethinkers, and the unconventionally spiritual. Given that the latest Pew survey found that twenty percent of the American people list their religious affiliation as “None,” it is certainly time that the Recovery world took into consideration this population’s needs. Beyond Belief addresses that need in a confident, non-aggressive way. I doubt that any believer will find anything objectionable in its pages. This believer, for one, finds much that is spiritually helpful.
Beyond Belief’s author Joe C., has been clean and sober since 1976. Joe hosts two radio shows, IndieCan Radio is heard on Sirius XM Radio and several college/community FM stations, featuring indie music bands and industry insiders. Rebellion Dogs Radio is a 21st century look at 12-Step Life, now with less dogma and more bite. Joe writes features articles on finance, music and recovery lifestyle magazines. Avid readers know Joe C. from The Fix, Renew Magazine, In Recovery Magazine, Substance.com and AA-agnostica.org.
